Spicy Mushroom Masala Recipe

I made this spicy mushrooms recipe today for our dinner and it was delicious.

You can eat this recipe on its own or with bread or as an accompaniment to another dish, we ate ours with sweet potato chips.

I use lots of healthy ingredients in this mushroom masala recipe.

Ingredients for Mushroom Masala Recipe
Olive Oil
2 Large Handfuls Small Mushrooms
2 Small Onions (finely chopped)
Small Chunk Ginger
1 Large Garlic Clove
approx 1/2 Cup Creamed Tomatoes
1 Green Pepper/Capsicum
1/2 Tin Chick Peas

1 tsp Turmeric
1+ 1/2 tsp Ground Cumin
2 tsp Garam Massala

1 tsp Coriander

1/2 - 1 tsp Chilli Powder (optional)

'Note...You can add as little or as much chilli to suite your taste.'

How to make Spicy Mushroom Masala Recipe

First grind your garlic, ginger (and chilli) into a paste.

Pour a little olive oil into a frying pan and brown your onions.

Turn down the heat and add the garlic/ginger paste - cook for a minute or so stiring it so it does not burn.

Add all your spices and some more olive oil, cook for a minute on low then add your creamed tomatoes and stir well.

Add peppers.

Add mushrooms.

Pour in a little water to loosen the sauce.

Cook on a medium heat for a few minutes.

Drain and rinse your chickpeas add them to the pan.

Simmer on a low heat for 5 minutes, if it needs thickening up add a little tomato puree and mix well.

Serve with chapatis or pita breads.

I served mine with sweet potato chips.

Enjoy Chef Jeenas Mushroom Masala Recipe.

I will pass this link to some of my regular commenters that cook as well. You won't see as many recipes at my place but at least a few. My wife and I have a lot of friends in the UK.

Hi Jeena, thanks for visiting my teczcape:Esacpe to Food blog.
You are a great find amidst my recent hooked on curries based on masala. I cooked fish curry and egg curry -masala based, recently but have not posted them up. And I just bought my chickpeas last week, yearning to cook some curry too!

What a joke, I had to google on garbanzos to know what I buying is actually chickpeas! Blame it on my ignorance but I've known them as chickpeas all my life!

I'll be back for more. :D

hi jeena,

Nice blog :)
By the way what's creamed tomatoes ? is that the same with tomato paste?

Chef Jeena said...

Hi Anonymous, thanks for stopping by. Creamed tomatoes you buy out of cartons, you can use canned tomatoes instead. Tomato puree or paste is very thick and different to creamed tomatoes. You can use the juice out of some canned tomatoes or mush some canned tomatoes up and use that instead.

I adore mushroom recipes! I am a huge fan of them ever since my dad used to put a tin of butter mushrooms on the bbq!! Of course now, being a vegan the butter is macadamia margarine instead..I have some big portobello mushies that I need to use soon, so I'll do this instead of a watery soup! thanks again!
