Wholewheat Pizza Recipe

This is my wholemeal pizza recipe.

Pizzas that are baked using wholewheat flour are very tasty and provide you with lots of fibre.

You can bake this wholewheat pizza recipe with or without cheese - either way be sure to top with nice healthy vegetables.

2 Small onions (sliced fine)
1 Green Pepper/Capsicum(sliced fine)
Some Mushrooms(sliced)
Tomato Puree
Sprinkle Black Pepper
Hard Goats Cheese or other cheese (optional)
Chef Jeenas wholewheat dough

First roll out some dough into a flat round shape. (or the shape of the baking tin you have)

Grease and flour your tin.

Place your flat dough into your baking tin.

Then spread on some tomato puree and sprinkle over your onions.

Add peppers and mushrooms.

Grate cheese to top the wholewheat pizza and sprinkle with black pepper.

If you do not want to use cheese this pizza tastes just as good without it.

Place pizza into a hot oven until the cheese has melted and the dough is golden brown.

wow Jeena,
Thats a healthy pizza! Just checked your dough recipe. Really packed with whole wheat!

I have tried a couple of recipes in the past without a bit of success. I guess something went wrong in baking. Could you please give some more tips on how to bake a prefect bread.

Hi Manjula, Thank you! There are many ways people make bread but being a wife and mother I try not to complicate things. So I just do it the way I like and thats good for me :)

Which type of yeast do you use?

I use yeast in sachets that is ready to use - you just add it to your flour with a little sugar and thats all you do.

If you use a different kind, tell me and I will go and buy some and try with that and let you know how it goes if you like?

Some people after kneading the dough leave it in a warm place for an hour to let it rise before they cook with it. But I don't do that I just make it, knead it and cook it.

Also whenever I cook dough it has to go into a hot oven. It doesn't take long to cook in a hot oven.

I don't know if this helps :)

Thanks for visiting Manjula :)

Hi Jeena,
Thats a lot of help. Thank You.

If you dont mind, I have few more Queries.
I use yeast those come in packets/sachets. My bread had come out with a very hard crust and inside was unbaked. Very dry too.
At what temperature do you bake bread?
I will give a try soon and let you know how it went :)

Hi Manjula, sorry for the late reply.

It depends what kind of bread I am Cooking to how high I have the oven. I will make some bread and write down the recipe as I do it for you. If I make pizza I put it onto maybe 200C - 230C, With bread I will have to make some to tell you because I don't know exactly until I make it.

Will you be using white or wholewheat flour?

Also did you use 'plain white flour' in the past or 'strong white bread flour'? Plain flour makes a whole different bread than strong bread flour.

If you let me know which type of flour your using I will make some and post it with some pictures for you Manjula, then if you want you can have a go yourself. :)

I don't always make bread so I don't claim to be an expert but I will do my best to help you get it fluffy inside and crispy outside :D

Also like I said earlier I think the time you knead the dough for makes a huge difference.

I would love to see some of your bread Manjula! :)

Hi Jeena,
Thank you so much for the reply.
I have tried 2 combinations
1. Plain All Purpose flour only
2. Whole wheat flour & all purpose flour (50%-50%)
Never used bread flour though. I would prefer to use 100% whole wheat flour like in your recipes.
Its been a while since I baked bread. I will give a try soon and let you know how it went.

Hi Jeena! I felt like eating pizza today and remembered this recipe from your site, so considering the fact that I had very little all-purpose flour and a lot of whole wheat flour, I decided to make this! I didn't however have spelt flour so I just used all-purpose instead. But I followed the instructions exactly, topped it with tomato sauce, red onions, garlic, zucchini, tomatoes, and provolone cheese. It came out great! It's the first time I've ever made whole-wheat pizza and let me tell you, it came out better than the times I made regular pizza!

In fact I was so excited that I even took pictures of it! I'm not the best photographer but here are the links..

I'm not sure if they will work but it's worth a try.
