Is this icing thick enough to be able to decorate with? Like making the icing flowers and such? I like to add natural coloring to my white icing and decorate my cakes with it.

Chef Jeena said...

The vegan white cake frosting recipe is not for the cake decorating that you want.

For making flowers you need to use royal icing which is used in sugar crafting.

I just made this recipe using Spectrum shortening for the margarine substitute and using GF Alcohol free Vanilla flavor including the other ingredients but my frosting came out a creamy beige color not crisp white like yours. How can I get it white? I decided to add Vitamin C crystals to it since it was already a different color..yummy, now it has an orange flavor, too.

how do you substitute powder sugar with something healthier?

Chef Jeena said...

Hi Mikey,

You could always dust the cake with powdered sugar instead of a thick white icing.

Another option is xylitol ground to a powder in a coffee grinder.

Is there a way to make frostin/icing without margarine? I need one very badly.

Chef Jeena said...

Hi Maia,

Shortening can be used instead of margarine.

If not you can make an icing by using water and powdered sugar with no other ingredients. It will not be a real frosting but sometimes a basic icing is very delicious.

Make sure you sieve the powdered sugar to remove any lumps and keep adding water until it reaches the consistency that you desire.
